Note: We’d originally announced Jim Aylesworth as a guest for April 29th. This was an error, and later marketing included the correct date of April 22nd. Get Ready for Bob Shea

The prolific writer and creator of children's books covering everything from rambunctious dinosaurs to confident mythological creatures, Bob Shea himself, will visit Kids Ink Bookstore on Thursday, March 23rd, from 4 to 5pm. His book Dinosaur vs. Mommy just came out with a board book edition, perfect for your own little reader!

Sarah Nicole Lemon Appearance

Come meet the debut YA author Sarah Nicole Lemon and check out her novel Done Dirt Cheap. She will be at Kids Ink on March 14th from 7-8pm.

Some things to know about the author….

  • I answer to Lemon.
  • I take my coffee any way it comes and my whiskey on ice.
  • Sometimes I have a southern accent and sometimes it’s completely Pittsburgh and I can’t hear either.
  • My first car was a sky blue 1985 Chevy S10 and it’s in every book I’ve ever written.
  • I have a large port-wine birthmark on my face. They say this shows how/where you died in your past life, and getting punched dead in the face for my sass sounds about right.
  • I have a genetic mutation called central heterochromia iridium, which just means my eyes have multiple colors in the irises.

Michael Bornstein opens Kids Ink to Survivor's Club

Michael Bornstein, one of the youngest documented survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp liberated in 1945, and his daughter Debbie Bornstein-Holinstat have co-authored the memoir Survivor’s Club: The True Story of a Very Young Prisoner of Auschwitz. They will appear at Kids Ink Monday, May 1st, from 4-5pm, to discuss the book, answer questions, and autograph copies.  The book will be available for purchase at Kids Ink beginning March 7th.

Family is the most important part of any young person’s life, whether by blood or choice or both. Michael and his family depended on each other for strength of body, mind and spirit during the Holocaust. Those memories determined the shape of Michael’s life, and  also the life of the family he made for himself.

Mr. Bornstein and his daughter wrote Survivor’s Club for students 10 and up, but older readers can also take away something important from this harrowing story.

We hope you’ll help spread word of this important visit, and that we will see you at Kids Ink on May 1st at four o’clock.

Jan Brett Brings the Holiday Cheer!

Jan Brett will visit Kids Ink on Thursday, December 1st to read, sign books, and celebrate the release of her latest children’s story, Gingerbread Christmas. Jan will speak at 5pm and sign books after.

We want to make sure all of Brett’s fans will be able to meet her, and so we will be distributing line tickets to better coordinate the event. Each ticket will allow a family to attend the event – parents, children, grandparents, but no pets (sorry!). Line tickets are free with the purchase of a Jan Brett book from Kids Ink, either Gingerbread Christmas or one of her other available titles such as The Mitten or The Twelve Days of Christmas. Guests may also bring one additional book from home.

For more information on the signing itself, or to order a Jan Brett book for the event, please call our store at 317-255-2598.

Nick Bruel Brings Bad Kitty to Work

Kids Ink Bookstore welcomes back Nick Bruel, author and illustrator of the Bad Kitty series! Beginning at 4pm on Monday, October 24th, Nick will be in our store to sign autographs, talk with fans, and prep us all of Halloween with his most recent hardcover, Bad Kitty Scaredy-Cat.

Bad Kitty started as an alphabet book featuring a cartoonish feline that tries to be good, but no matter what she does trouble finds her. That spawned a series of chapter books that continue to captivate readers and dominate bookshelves. Scaredy-Cat flashes back to the disastrous first time Kitty encountered trick-or-treaters, and what she does now to overcome her fears.

Nick Bruel operates as a freelance illustrator and cartoonist (the Bad Kitty series is published by Macmillan Publishing) since his first publication in 2004. In addition to his publication work, he collects PEZ dispensers and enjoys growing produce in his back yard.

The event will be held at Kids Ink, and consist of a short reading followed by author signing. Space will be limited and will be first-come-first-served. We will not be taking reservations, so arrive early to guarantee a spot.

Kids Ink will have copies of Bruel’s books available for purchase. For more information on the signing itself, please call our store at (317) 255-2598.
