Alex Gino - this year's winner of the Children's Stonewall Award - will be at Kids Ink on Thursday, May 19th, starting at 6pm to lead discussion and sign copies of their (Alex's preferred pronoun) landmark novel George.

George is a middle grade book about a fourth grader who is determined to be the person she wants to be.  George may look like a boy, but she knows deep down that she’s a girl.  George fears she’ll have to conceal this feeling forever, but an opportunity comes along that’s too good to pass up: the school play.  George desperately wants to be cast as Charlotte in the school production of Charlotte’s Web.  She confronts her teacher, the administration, backstage politics, and wardrobe adjustments in order to land the role and tell the world who she really is.

Alex Gino wrote George with the intention to fill a gap.  Their book about a gender-transitioning young person is an important and timely contribution to children’s literature.

Alex (who uses the singular pronoun they) was born in New York, has lived all over the United States, and currently resides in California.

We are honored to have Alex visit Kids Ink and eager to share their book and their story with our customers and the community. We invite anyone interested to join us and perhaps gain a new perspective.
